Short Kiddo Updates

K finished her round of antibiotics for strep and is thankfully back to 100%.  She is loving the warmer temps and enjoys the playground time at school twice a day.  This week it's in the 60's all week but then we're getting snow again this weekend.  Hopefully things will line up to go to the zoo and other outdoor venues soon.  She's also excited gymnastics is going again.

Here she is last weekend in a shirt that was mine when I was little.

C is such a happy little guy and loves to draw in the ladies with his big smile.  He is much more serious when assessing men, it cracks me up.  Unfortunatly we've had a tough run with sleep.  He's been getting up 1-2 times a night and demands that I nurse him or he goes on a car ride.  We can try rocking him, walking him, pacifiers, etc. and nothing works.  I fear we are starting a bad habit but hopefully it's a short stage and he'll go back to his 9 hour stretches soon.  He'll be 9 months next week so I'll do a bigger update on him then.

Here he is showing off his 4 teeth!

Strep

K felt left out of the serious illness parade that C has been involved in so she decided to throw a little strep in the mix =(  She came down with it a week ago and it was horrible.  I have never had it but incorrectly thought it was just another virus - not so much.  Monday we got her in to the doctor and started her on antibiotics and at bedtime her fever was 104.3 despite rotating ibuprofen and Tylenol.  Tuesday she was back to about 70% and ate a little bit of food...like this Popsicle but you can tell by her droopy look and flushed cheeks she was still feeling pretty bad:

Wednesday she was well enough to return to school though and from then on she's been doing well.  Amazing how fast antibiotics work on little ones!  C seems to have escaped this bout, fingers crossed it stays that way. Here they are together celebrating her recovery =)

Busy, busy, busy!

Lots of updates...

Last Saturday K started her gymnastics class again.  She's so excited!  Unfortunately there are a few "free spirits" in the class that are unruly but hopefully that will get better with each passing week.  Her teacher thinks K has the skills to move up to the next class (for 4-5 year olds) but unfortunately it's full so she'll stay in the younger class until a spot opens up.

Saturday evening my MIL came to watch the kiddos while M and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner (and bottle of wine) at one of our favorite fondue restaurants.  We got dressed up and while at dinner we were able to finish whole sentences and eat our food at a normal pace while it was still hot - glorious!

Sunday C turned 8 months old.  Wow!  How did that happen?  He celebrated with getting his top front teeth on Monday and Tuesday, so that makes 4 teeth.  Hopefully biting will not occur to him *eek*  He's also decided that sitting up is pretty cool.  He's very stable but has no fear of falling over when trying to reach for a toy he's kicked out of reach so he still needs a boppy or something for protection.  Purees are not high on his list and he's eating small bites of most of the foods we eat.  I have to admit I'm spacing the new foods out less than I did with K but all is going well.  He can roll a ball back and forth with me if he's motivated to and can roll both front to back and back to front.  He's 20.9lbs (70th%) and 28.5" (75th%).  I love this age, so many new skills and just so darn cute!

Monday M and I took the day off and went skiing.  It was the first day I've taken off in 6 months (besides ones for taking care of sick kiddos) and it was really nice to get out of town and spend the day together.  It was the first day I left C for more than 4 hours and I had a good cry about it but he did great.  Nice day on the mountain and we even stopped at a local brewery for a beer on the way home.  It was nice to have a weekend with so much time to reconnect.

A few photos from the last week too...

K is so loving the time change and being able to play outside after school.
Note her new jelly shoes that light up - her new prized possession.

Sibling love!  A little PJ time on a weekend morning

Looking so grown up!

Clear!

Thanks for all your good sleep thoughts.  I think the antibiotics caused some GI issues and when he came off of them it took a few days for his system to clear out.  After a couple days of blow outs he's back to his normal 10pm to 7am schedule, even with the time change.  Good boy!

We went in last Friday for a re-check on C's lungs and ears.  They got the all clear =)  He celebrated by getting a flu booster and the tough little guy didn't even cry.  There was also no fever or fussiness afterwards.  Cue a big sigh of relief!

The weekend was lovely (60's) here and we spent time outside finally. I can feel spring coming and couldn't be more thrilled.  Sunday the sniffles started for both C & K which sucks but hopefully it's a mild cold this time around.

This coming weekend K's gymnastics class starts up again and she is beyond excited =)  It's also our 8 year wedding anniversary and my MIL is coming to watch the kids while we go enjoy a nice fondue dinner complete with a bottle of wine.  It's been a year since we had a full fledged date night so we're pretty darn excited!

Sleep...Come Back!

Good news is that C is recovered from his bout with RSV, broncolitis and double ear infection =)  So awesome to have his smiles back and say goodbye to the wheezing!

Bad news is that he now is having sleep issues.  He has slept through the night since he was four weeks old and typically goes down at 10 and gets up at 7.  Every once in a while (two to three times a week) he'll have a fuss or two but can usually be calmed in 5 minutes.  Now for two nights in a row he's waking up SCREAMING about 1/2 an hour after going down.  First night screaming lasted 10 minutes and then last night the screaming lasted and hour and a half.  We tried baby orajel for the two top teeth that will be coming in any day, pain drops for his ears just in case they are still hurting, changing his diaper because he has a mild yeast rash from the antibiotics, taking off all his clothes to see if something was poking him, tried him in his swaddle, out of his swaddle, etc. and nothing worked and he just kept sounding like I'd stuck him with a hot poker.  We finally put him in his car seat and I left with him headed for Children's Hospital.  He was asleep before I got to the end of our road so I ended up taking a 15 minute drive, returning home and he slept through taking him out of his car seat, swaddling him and putting him in his crib.  He awoke smiling at 6:45.  Oh how I wish he could talk and tell us what in the world happened.  He doesn't seem to be getting sick or anything so we are clueless.  Thankfully K slept through the whole thing.

I'm running on 5 hours of sleep today and hope, hope, hope things are better tonight!  I looked back at my blog posts from when K was his age...guess what?  Sleep problems that lasted 2 weeks at the very same age.  Crazy.  I hope this is not the start of a two week ordeal!  Ah well, at least they are still adorable.

C starting to feed himself - he dislikes purees but loves small bites of corn, peas, avocado and ham so far

K has declared that her hair is "very long" and needs lots of barrettes

RSV

Poor C got flu and croup in January and now has RSV, broncolitis and a double ear infection. OMG!  The poor little guy is possibly the sickest I've ever personally seen a baby.  I've cried daily because just watching him struggle sucks.  The good news is that he's staying hydrated, has good oxygen levels so he didn't need to be hospitalized.  The doctor said Wednesday and Thursday (day 3 and 4) should have been the worst so we've made it past that.  The great news is that K has stayed clear of all this and she's been a very understanding big sis.  Accepting all get well vibes!

Real Food!

Now that C is six months old we're moving into eating some real food!  We started on 1/24 with some oatmeal.  The first night I mixed it with water and it was met with mixed reviews.  From that point on I've mixed it with breast milk and it seems much more palatable.  On 1/29 we gave him sweet potatoes for the first time and he thought they were pretty yummy and on 2/2 we started carrots which he finds equally tasty.  He's doing so well I bought some stage 2 peas at the store last weekend that I'll try this week and see how he does.  Hopefully our run to eating small pieces of our dinner will be short.  I forgot how much work purees are...and I just buy them *LOL*  K has helped me with feeding him and she thinks it's pretty cool =)

First Bite!

Messy boy

And even though our Broncos lost we still love them and this is too cute not to share =)
